Tim Good

Tim Good was a man of integrity, fiercely loyal to his family, friends, colleagues, and clients, working to see everybody succeed. He had a brilliant mind, and was endlessly curious, honed by reading constantly and tinkering with mechanicals since boyhood. He loved design — first as an engine designer at Callaway Cars, then in his second career when he joined Good Design and later, in his work designing two homes for his family.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and for 30+ years a founding partner at Good Design, a marketing strategy firm specializing in nonprofits and independent schools, Tim died on October 9, 2024. He was 66.

For more than three decades, Tim has helped independent schools and nonprofits find their own unique identities or “brands” and leverage that to connect with their communities. From traditional print pieces to early websites to today's cutting-edge digital marketing campaigns, he was proud of Good Design's work. He loved his team and the close friendships he developed with clients over the years.

Selflessness was at Tim's core. He was always looking at what he could do for other people — for his family, co-workers at Good Design, or clients. Tim gave talented, dedicated people an opportunity to thrive in their craft. His staff returned that with immense loyalty. Two of Good Design's designers have been at the company since graduating from college. Many interns have continued in the field, inspired by Tim’s initial mentorship.

Tim reveled in the creative process and applied his vast and eclectic knowledge in productive and unique ways, creating products that brought together art, education, and joy. One of these products was the Good Design holiday tin, where a custom painting was done by a Good Design Team member and filled with chocolate. The back included educational trivia related to the painting, often requiring extensive research, a process he loved. Some of the 1,500 clients who have received them over the years tell us they still have them in their offices.

Tim is survived by his wife Nancy Good, his daughter Erin Good, his son-in-law Jeff Russin, and his grandson Hudson Russin.

Tim was passionate about education, especially early childhood. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Education Cannot Wait: https://www.educationcannotwait.org/donate.

A celebration of life for Tim’s Good Design clients, vendors, and colleagues will be held at 4 pm on Friday, December 6 at The Independent Day School in the Galluzzo Theater, 115 Laurel Brook Road, Middlefield, CT.
